Warren Mack

Toronto, ON

Image: Dwelling

For the past twenty years Warren has made a living as a practicing architect and artist, working internationally for several award winning firms, yet continually drawn back to his home town, Toronto, Canada. Architecture and art represent two sides of the same coin for Warren, allowing him to explore beyond the restraints of either form of expression individually. As a result his work often deals with the contrast between structure and organic form, the two challenging one another to create something unforeseen yet cohesive at the same time. The work has a sense of depth and movement, toying with scale and perspective, invoking an emotional response to the vibrant, secretive, and spatial realm that one finds them self in. Surreal landscapes emerge from the pieces, along with fluid and murky references to built form and industrial landscapes.

In addition to his classical and modernist training, Warren's work is deeply influenced by Kandinsky, Escher, and Bacon, the three diverse styles providing inspiration and alternative views for perceiving the world around us.

I really like this art! I've bought Facade and, after they stealed my iPad, now i've liked Driving at Dusk - and only after buying it i saw it was the same artist. Congratulations, your drawings seduce me.

A lovely intersection of structure and chance -- painterly and architectural.

These are certainly my cup of tea. I can think of one place where they should hang!
