Kathie Olivas-Brandt Peters
Kathie Olivas is a multi-media artist who resides in Tampa, FL and Albuquerque, NM. At 30, she has been featured in numerous galleries across the globe and is represented in the permanent collection at the Tampa Museum of Art. She received her bachelor's degree in visual arts from the University of South Florida. She is currently working on a book of her work with Mark Murphy Design and a line of limited edition vinyl toys.
Brandt grew up on the West Coast and came from a family of antique collectors and artists. His eclectic upbringing was filled with a wide range of Pop ephemera. The subject of his paintings is a world of sideshow icons, deviant animals and masked, glorified, cartoon alter egos. Although misfits on the surface, a sense of relation is understood, secret from the public.
The work seems to say, “We are all misfits - hiding behind animated personas, odd and beautifully unusual. Who do we relate to? The lonely little boy hiding in a bear suit or the evil lustful pool-hall wolf or possibly the sexualized little girl who secretly wants more?” The environment and its limited population are meant to conjure these questions; the viewers are confronted with finding their own answers.
Brandt Elling Peters is a self-taught artist currently living in Tampa, FL with his wife, fellow artist, Kathie Olivas and their two dogs Bailey and Diego. He has been exhibiting in numerous galleries across the US & Canada.
