Brian Despain

Brian Despain

Kirkland, WA

Image: Paper Fish

Brian lives in a secret world populated by rusted automatons and displaced fish. His imagery dances between a delicate dichotomy of dark and humorous. The double meanings and hidden symbolism replete in his paintings hint at grand machinations, swimming just beneath the surface of conscious perception. His art grabs the attention and begs the viewer to share in the unique experience of his imagination.

Brian currently lives in Washington State where he paints and sometimes ventures out to commune with the local water-bound fauna.

I put "The Exchange" on my netbook, and every time I look at it, it makes me happy. The symbolism is really meaningful to me. Grateful to be able to recommend both Gelaskins and Brian's work to dozens of "wowed" people so far!
